It's Day 5 of the 12 Days of Holiday Ideas and today we're sharing Holiday Advent or Christmas Countdown Calendars ideas!

Countdown calendars are a fun way for all of us to count down the days leading up to Christmas! There are no kids in my family to get excited about the big day coming, so this year I'm re-purposing a chalkboard fabric tree  that I made several years ago. It's perfect and quite easy to use in counting down to Christmas! It's a wonderful idea and can be used as a reminder for how many days are left until .  .  . and you might just get inspired to make your own! All you have to do is just write on the tree for each new day and for any ideas or info you want to highlight for the upcoming holidays!

Here's how I made the chalkboard fabric tree:  I cut out the tree using a scrap piece of chalkboard fabric I had left over from  a tablerunner I had made previously. First, I found a tree pattern I was happy with and enlarged it using Block Posters.  Next, I cut out the enlarged pattern on poster board, and traced it on back of the chalkboard fabric.
Chalkboard fabric is easy to cut and never frays, so you can virtually make anything with it. The fabric must be conditioned with chalk before using by  rubbing the side of a piece of regular chalk over the entire surface from top to bottom and side to side.  Using a soft cloth wipe off the chalk and repeat the process (I only did this once) The fabric is now ready to write on!
Once the tree is cut out, it's just a matter of attaching small command strips on back of the fabric and placing it on the wall. How easy is that!

I also cut out a star and placed it above the tip of the tree .  .  .

and a base for the bottom of the tree! A whimsical stick-on santa decal was also added to brighten things up a bit!
