Glitter Foam Circles Christmas Tree

I seem to be on a roll right now making crafts using foam sheets. And did I tell you that I love working with foam sheets! It's such a versatile material to make crafts out of.
You can check out a few of my previous projects here, herehere, here, here, here and here, if you want! Although today's project is made out of glitter foam sheets  - which are not quite as adaptable as the plain foam sheets are - like heating, twisting and stretching into beautiful pieces - nevertheless, I truly enjoyed creating this lovely glitter foam circles tree!

So let's get started with gathering the supplies:

  • Poster board
  • Masking tape/quick drying glue
  • Scissors
  • Glitter foam sheets
  • Circle puncher (2.5")
  • Hot glue gun/glue sticks
  • Remote control led mini lights

I saw this pretty shiny green posterboard at Hobby Lobby and couldn't resist getting it! So let's begin by laying a sheet of poster board on your work surface.  Starting near a corner on the poster board paper, begin rolling the paper into a cone shape.

Once you have the cone shape, cut off the excess posterboard on the side and on the bottom .  .  .
and use masking tape to hold the cone in place. The finished cone measured 23" tall.
Next, begin punching out the circles from the glitter foam sheets. The green foam sheets I used were 12"x18" and I was able to punchout .  .  .
around twenty-eight, 2.5"circles per sheet.
To make the cupped circle design, cut a slit from the edge to the center .  .  .
and place hot glue on the overlapping edges . .  .
to seal into a .  .  .
cupped shape.
To attach to cone, place dab of glue along outside overlapping edge and press onto cone. Slightly overlap each additional circle around cone.

Begin each row by overlapping between overlapping circles .  .  .
until the cone is .  .  .

completely covered.
with 130 circles for this size cone!
For an extra decorative effect at night, wrap remote control led lights around the foam circles, hiding wire underneath circles.
Makes for a cool looking Christmas tabletop tree!
