One of my favorite styles of wreaths is the two embroidery hoops wreath. It's quite different from the usual grapevine or evergreen wreaths. So for this month's Creative Craft Hop, hosted by Sara @Birdz of a Feather, I decided to make a holiday version using two wood craft rings I picked up at the thrift store, and a couple of handmade purple velvet poinsettia flowers. You do know that poinsettia flowers come in purple, too! Lol! I discovered them on a trip to North Carolina a few years ago! And I have been kicking myself for not buying the purple plant ever since. I haven't seen them here in Maryland! But I digress! So let's get started!

Materials:
- Crushed Velvet fabric (24"x24")
- Mod Podge
- Paint brush
- Poinsettia leaf templates
- Wood craft rings (12" & 10")
- Hot Glue/glue sticks
- Parchment paper
- Fabri-Tac fabric glue
- Floral stems (24 gauge)
- Rhinestone trim
- Chenille stems
- Beads and white pine stems
How to:
Begin by painting mod podge on the back of crushed velvet fabric to make it stiff. I made the mistake of using outdoor mod podge instead of the matte finish. And the outdoor mp made the fabric much darker and not as stiff as the matte. Once dry, I went over the fabric with matte mod podge, and let that dry.
Then, I drew poinsettia templates out of posterboard in two sizes, 4 1/2" and 3 1/4" and . . .
cut out ten velvet petals in each size.
Next, to add a wire backing to the petals, dipped floral stem wires in fabric glue
and positioned the wire on the middle of the leaf, and used a piece of parchment paper to press the stem wire down. Since I was working with silicone glue, I cover my work surface with parchment paper. It was easier to just rub the glue off of the paper.
Continue adding stem wire to the back of the petals until . . .
all were added.Next, added adhesive backed rhinestone trim around the poinsettias leaves for a decorative effect.
Doesn't it look pretty!
Time to put the poinsettia leaves together in groups of five using hot glue.
Applied hot glue to hold the rings together.
Then wrapped chenille stems where the rings are attached for a base to glue on the poinsettias.Sorry for the shadows - it's nighttime and the lighting is awful!
