Dollar Store Pizza Pan Fall Door Hanger

Dollar store crafts are quite trendy right now! I recently joined a Facebook group for those of us who love crafting with dollar store items. Not long ago, we were challenged by one of the founding members, Heather @Daily DIY Life to create a craft using a pizza pan or something similar since pizza pans are hard to find right now at the Dollar Tree. It's so much fun and inspirational to see what some of the dollar store crafters come up with! My idea for a Dollar Tree fall door hanger is not original, in fact, one of my blogging buddies, Niki @ Life as a Leo Wife, created a lovely one you can check out right here!  Anyway, I had fun putting together my version using a few items from the Dollar Tree:
  • Pizza Pan
  • Plaid Fabric
  • Mod Podge
  • Tinsel Stems
Plus essential craft items like chalk paint, sponge brush, scissors, pencil, measuring tape, fabric glue and a graphic fall design.

To make, start by removing the pizza pan label and washing it to remove any stickiness, dirt and grime. And let dry. 
Paint the pan with white chalk paint and a sponge brush and .  .  .
and let dry.
Once dry, lay the pizza pan face down on the wrong side of the fabric and draw a circle using the edge of the pizza pan as a guide and cut out. Then lay the fabric circle inside the pizza pan and use a measuring tape to size and mark around the fabric exactly where it fits. 

For example, I wanted the fabric to fit just below the pan rim, so I measured and marked 1/2" around the entire circle and cut off that much more of fabric. 

Then apply a layer of Mod Podge to the pan and .  .  .

lay the fabric circle on top, smoothing it out with your hand and fingers. 

Let dry. Apply an additional layer of Mod Podge to seal. 
In the meantime, find an adorable graphic design online to place in the middle of the pan: 

And then make a few fall leaves out of the remaining fabric by slathering the fabric in Mod Podge to make it stiff, let dry and draw a fall leaf image:
Outline the leaves with glittery tinsel stems from the dollar store .  .  .
all around .  .  .
the leaf edges.
And then attaching it all, including a bow, to welcome Fall!

Dollar Store Slippers Gnome Ornament

It's that time again for our Monthly Challenge Blog Hop!
I've joined a group of creative bloggers to bring you a monthly challenge blog hop. On the 2nd Monday of each month we share our themed creations for the month.  This month it's a Dollar Store Craft!  And who doesn't love creating something awesome using items from the dollar store!

 Gnomes continues to be quite popular and trendy this holiday season! They are  the absolute cutest and can be found just about everywhere in all kinds of materials, colors, shapes, and sizes!  And they're also the perfect addition to almost any type of holiday decor! So I've jumped on the band wagon to create my own using plaid slippers from the Dollar Tree!

I hope the first thing you thought when you saw this wasn't, "Oh no she didn't! I can't believe she destroyed a perfectly good pair of slippers to make this gnome ornament!" Well, yes I did! But please remember they were just a dollar!  Besides, I bought an extra pair to wear around the house! I couldn't resist! They are so cool and comfortable! Cool as a pair of slippers and cool as a gnome ornament, too! And the best part, you really don't need to spend anymore than a couple of dollars to make this adorable ornament! You better believe it! And I'm sure you have all the other items you'll need in your stash to put it together, too!

 Materials:
Dollar store faux fur lined slippers
Dollar store nude foot-ped
Seam Ripper or craft knife
Cardstock to draw hat template
Fabric glue or hot glue
Fiber-fil or cotton ball
Cardboard
Twine/thick thread

 Let's start by taking the slippers apart. I used a craft knife to break the side seams and I'm sure a seam ripper would be much easier for this, but I couldn't find mine - too much clutter right now, lol! 
The best thing about opening up the seam is that the faux fur lining separates from the sole completely into one piece.  And it's perfect to use for the beard!
Next, lay out the opened slippers and cut off just enough to make the hat! Save the rest for another awesome project!

Then, make a template of a gnome's hat out of cardstock - I purposely drew the hat to include the curvature of the slipper - it's a great spot for the nose! Next, place the pattern on top of the slipper fabric .  .  .

and cut out.
Place right sides (plaid)together and run a bead of glue along the inside edges, leaving the bottom open. Firmly press the edges together and let dry completely.
Once dry, turn the hat inside out. Oh boy, doesn't this look awesome!
Next, fold the faux fur from the sole in half, coating with glue inside to seal the piece together and let dry.
Insert faux fur at the fold into the bottom of hat, adjusting fit and gluing in place.

Then round off the shape of the beard with scissors.

Don't you just love how it's taking shape!
To make the nose - take a small amount of fiber-fil or a cotton ball from the medicine cabinet, and shape into a ball .  .  .
stuffing it in the toe area of the foot-ped and tying the ball tight with a cut-off strip from the ped.
Then cut off the excess fabric .  .  .
and glue nose onto center curve, just below hat edge.
Make a hanger by wrapping twine around cardboard - grouping in three, 
3 strands and tying in a knot .  .  .
to braid.
Once braided, fold twine braid to make a loop, adding glue to ends and insert into center top of hat for hanger. Let dry.

What a fun and easy way to add a bit of whimsy to your holiday tree this season!

DIY Clothespin Baskets

A Tisket - A Tasket
Let's Make a Clothespin Basket!
When I think of baskets, I think of Fall and the various ways you can use them to decorate for the season! It's such an easy way to add simple touches for a beautiful look!  Sure, there are lots of baskets out there - so many styles, sizes and prices to choose from, but how special would it be to make your own? And the best part, you can create a unique handmade basket using items from the dollar store! You won't believe how easy it is!
Materials Needed:
  • Burner cover pans - Dollar Tree
  • Clothes Pins - Dollar Tree 4pks.
  • Napkins - Dollar Tree
  • Mod Podge/brush - Dollar Tree
  • Dap Rapid-Fuse multi-purpose adhesive
In addition, you will need something round like a bowl or top to make a circle, and also water, and a paint brush.



Let's begin by opening a pumpkin design square napkin and placing it down, face up on your work surface. Take a bowl or round top with an opening that would fit over the pumpkin design plus a little border. Using a small brush, dip in water and dab the napkin area around the bowl or top. Use your fingernail tip to separate the excess napkin following around the damp area in a circle.


Next, separate the layers of the napkin. Then paint on mod podge around the center of the burner pan.  Lay the pattern side of the napkin face-up onto the mod podge, smoothing from the center out, all around.  Let dry. Repeat steps for the second smaller pan.

The pumpkin color on the smaller pan looks deeper because I cut out a second napkin pumpkin (just the pumpkin) and mod podged it on top of the first one. Doing that gives the pumpkin color a much richer look.

 To seal the napkins on the pan, paint on another layer of mod podge and let dry.


Next, run a line of Rapid-Fuse glue (enough for about 6-7 clothespins at a time) around the center of the outer rim of the burner cover pan.  Begin placing the clothespins on the rim. The glue dries quickly so don't add too much along the rim at any given time. 

Be sure to place the clothespins as close to each other, as possible, making sure they are straight. There will be a slight gap between each clothespin because of the metal springs.

Continue adding glue and then the clothespins until .  .  .


the rims are completely covered with clothespins for a unique, bushel basket rustic look. Doesn't this look so cool?


I love the natural look of the clothespins .  .  . but you can paint them if you want!




It's a lovely look for Fall!
