DIY Christmas Countdown Tree Calendar

It's Day 3 and we are sharing DIY Christmas Countdown Calendar Ideas!



This is not your ordinary type of Christmas Countdown Calendar!  You won't believe it's made of packing cardboard strips!   Yes, packing boards from a overhead storage rack! A whopping six feet tall, lean against the wall, Christmas Countdown Calendar! And it was almost free to make! Hot dang!

  Materials:
  • Packing cardboard strips
  • Hot glue
  • 6" x 6" cardstock book (25 sheets)
  • Fabri-Tac Glue
  • Clothespins
  • Velcro adhesive closures (Dollar Tree)
  • Mini Christmas Clothespins - red/green foil (50pc pkg)
  • Bow wire
  • Stapler
  • Glue dots
  • Star (Dollar Tree)
As soon as I saw the boards - thick and sturdy, I knew there was a craft project in the making. I just didn't know what and when! Until now! So easy, too!  I just hot glued the ends together in a triangular shape to form a modern looking tree. And then cut a shorter piece for the base and glued that on, too. I left the color as is - I couldn't decide what color to paint it. Sorry the pic is upside down - I had to block the sun shining through the window!

Then I started making cone shape sacks for the countdown. There are four corner tips on each 6"x 6" square sheet. To make a cone, hold the paper on the left and right sides, with the tip in the center and begin rolling the paper together into a point .  .  . 
to form a cone. 
Run glue along the edge to seal, holding in place. Use a clothespin at the top if you need to until the glue dries.

Then make 24 more cones!
Next, flatten the cones, smoothing out the sides.
Fold flap over for the sack.
 And don't forget to add velcro closures - oops, I almost did!
Fill with assorted treats and goodies for the countdown to Christmas!

Use flexible bow wire for the hanging lines and staple on seven rows to the back, spacing the lines the length of the cones for each row. Tie ends of the wire into a knot around the staples for extra hold. Here's the layout that I used for the hanging wire lines:

Cut out 25 numbers from decorative cardstock and use glue dots to add them to the cone sacks. Also add a decorative star embellishment to the top! 
Simple and Sweet!

Pretty enough to display anywhere in your home!
