Hot Glue Candle Drip DIY for Halloween

Hey! It’s that time again for another Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop! And this time I get to feature a cool idea for Halloween decor! If you aren’t familiar with this challenge, it’s basically a group of bloggers that get together each month to try a pin we’ve pinned to our boards. It’s a way of motivating ourselves (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! You can see all of our pin projects at the bottom of this post, so check them out and see what inspires you!

It's fun getting in the spirit of Halloween decorating without being too creepy or ghoulish! My project was originally inspired by a creation I saw on Pinterest here.

The post is showing how to re-create the classic look of a wax dripped chiante wine bottle as a table decoration. Don't you just love the look of melted candles with the wax running down! Me too! I've used hot glue like this before for a wintry scene and I wanted to try my own version for Halloween!

Materials Needed:
Wine Bottle
Multi-surface acrylic craft paint - flat black
Halloween napkin (Dollar Tree)
Mod Podge/brush
Hot glue gun/glue sticks
LED twist-on tapered candle (Dollar Tree)

Begin by painting a clean wine bottle, black.
Next, separate the print layer of napkin from the backing.
Measure the printed napkin for placement on bottle and tear off the unwanted portion.
Brush mod podge on the bottle in sections. and lay the napkin over the mod podge and smooth out while wrapping around bottle.
Continue adding mod podge to the bottle and wrapping napkin around until the bottle is covered.  The dollar store napkin colors bled from the mod podge so I didn't add any additional mod podge over the napkin. Usually you do to seal it all over. But I did brush on more mod podge to seal down the napkin at the top edges to the bottle. Then let dry.
Once the napkin and mod podge has dried, begin adding hot glue in vertical lines over the top portion of the napkin back to the top of the bottle opening, letting the hot glue drippings run down. Be sure to et the hot glue drips dry before filling in with more glue over and between the first row drips or else it will look like a blob. Be sure to stagger the lengths of the hot glue drips, too.

Paint the LED twist-on candle black and let dry.
Insert candle into bottle opening and  .  .  .
add hot glue drips over entire candle and let dry.

Twist candle to light .  .  .
for an awesome Halloween look!

  4. I love this idea. It reminds me of the dripping candles in the wine bottle we use to do back in the day. This is a lot cuter and easier.

  9. A great Halloween DIY, Gail. I am not that much into decorating for any season, but this is not too scary and not too much of a hazzle to make. Also, my hot glue gun is always out and ready.

  10. What a fun (spooky) idea! Hot glue can be used for so many things, outside of just gluing - love it!
