Corrugated Cardboard Jewelry How To

I've been on a recycling or upcycling kick lately.  Making a bowl and napkin rings out of newspaper and a fancy hand ring from a soda bottle.

You've probably thrown away some cardboard packing material recently.  You know the kind with the corrugated ridges.  Did you ever think you could make corrugated cardboard into beautiful jewelry?  Let me show and tell you how:

Go get the packing cardboard box you just recently tossed.  Take a look at it and select a smooth portion to work with,  grab the end corner and tear off the top layer of paper to reveal the ridges (corrugated) inside.  You knew that was there, right!

Next, cut the corrugated cardboard you've revealed into thin even strips about 1/4 inch wide and at least 10-12 inches long.

For the larger round piece you'll need about three of these strips glued together, for the middle size, two 10-12 inch strips and for the smaller piece, just one strip will do.

Start rolling the strip firmly with the smooth side inside and the corrugated on the outside. You'll find that if you roll too tight the ridges might collapse and you don't want that to happen.  You want a nice decorative look with the corrugated ridges.

Apply a small amount of tacky glue or hot glue along the middle of the strip along the length, being careful that the glue doesn't ooze out onto the sides.  Continue rolling evenly until reaching the end and then glue it securely to the circle, add the next strip to the piece by matching ridges and glue.  Continue rolling and gluing the final strip the same way and allow to dry completely.

Do the same for the other two smaller pieces.

Apply mod podge or clear varnish over both sides of all the circles to seal the cardboard and let dry.

Glue decorative half stones in the center of the circles.

Connect the three pieces together with jump rings inserted through the open ridges and attach a favorite chain to wear.

So beautiful!  How's that for recycling!

Take a little time to enjoy

and

Happy Crafting!

  2. Gail,
You never fail to amaze me! You, my friend, can turn anything into something beautiful! Where do you get those ideas? I look at cardboard and at best, think of using it to cut a picture mat or something equally mundane. You see jewelry! Beautiful!
    Congrats and enjoy!
