For a lot of us right now during the pandemic, crafting is a way of helping to get through the feeling of being isolated or confined. It calms us, shifting our attention away from what's going on around us and is a great way to break up the monotony of sheltering in place.
Picking up an old craft or delving into a new one is a positive way to get through this virus pandemic. That being said, if you know of anyone who wants to take up crafting or curious as to how to get started during these times, there are basic tools one must have when making a variety of projects. And this Must Have Gift Guide for Crafters is perfect to get you started!

Glue Gun (Cordless, Auto-Off Function-  A good glue gun is a must for any crafter, However, most standard glue guns aren’t equipped with a convenient safety feature like an auto-off setting or one that's battery operated! I know I've woken up worried during the middle of the night wondering if I turned off my glue gun. You can also do projects and not worry about being near an electrical outlet or using an extension cord.

  • Self Healing Cutting Mat  Set  is a fabulous way to protect your table top from sharp blades, writing instruments and other art and craft tools.  Most crafters can't live without a cutting mat and accessories!

Ruler Kit - Having good measuring tools is a necessity in crafts - there's always a need to measure something when creating projects.

Craft Scissors Set     Scissors are an essential tool for every crafter. And you will need different size scissors for multiple types of cuttings.

Craft Knife Set is a crafters best friend. A sharp and handy Xacto knife is priceless in that moment of need—it’s a must-have for any crafter or DIY’er. And having a variety of blades to use is a plus!  They come in real handy with different craft projects!

Paper Trimmer - perfect for those who love to do all things paper crafts! It's a really nice tool to have so you can make perfect cuts every time.

Pliers Set for Crafts - set includes everything you need for craft or jewelry projects. I like that this set has a nylon jaw flat nose pliers for straightening and shaping wire!
Hole Punch Set - Ideal for punching circles, hearts, and stars on paper, thin plastic, leather and metal. A fun crafter's tool!

Paint Set - There are so many paints to choose from so having a basic set of standard colors is a must have for any crafter.

Paint Brush Set - different size brushes are needed along with the paints for a variety of projects. Definitely a must-have!

Mod Podge Set -  an all-in-one glue, sealer, and finish.  Use for decoupage - glue together pieces of paper, or fabric and also use it to glaze it on top of your finalized project to add a finished look. Comes in a variety of finishes and can be applied with foam brushes. .
Any good crafter should have multiple adhesives on hand for creating. I have a few favorites that you can group together into a gift bundle:
RapidFuse - Sets in 30 seconds but is re-positionable for up to three minutes! It's a multi-purpose permanent adhesive. Great for both indoors and outdoors, too!

Fabri-Tac Fabric Glue - A fast grab, fast dry, flexible glue that's permanent and machine washable! A must have fabric glue!

Aileen's Tacky Glue - #1 glue choice of crafters! Dries clear and flexible and cleans up with water!

Tripod Ring Light - Perfect for taking photos and videos for craft tutorials and projects. Has an adjustable brightness lighting which is so important for good photos.
Bowdabra - When it comes to Bow Makers, the Bowdabra Bowmaker is a must have! You can make your own professional-quality, beautiful bows in just minutes. It is easy to use and you can make stunning bows of all kinds
with it.

I hope you find this list useful in selecting items any crafter, especially a beginner, would love. It's by no means complete. It's a basic list - items that will get one started in the fun world of crafting. There are lots of gift giving items out there! I left off expensive equipment like cutting machines, sewing machines, and storage units, etc. I'm all about creating crafts that are inexpensive to make! And the fun part - they're all perfect to group into gift baskets for gift giving during the holidays!

Glass Cutting Board Fall Update

Fall is here and Thanksgiving is just around the corner.  Things are so different this year as we deal with the covid pandemic and its' affect on everyone! Most of us are sheltering in place and practicing social distancing. I'm so thankful for my crafting opportunities and social media families right now to help keep me busy!

Today, I'm joining a group of talented bloggers to bring you this awesome Fall Crafts & Decor Blog Hop!
For this blog hop I'm sharing how to update a glass cutting board I got from the Dollar Tree. This is a fun and easy craft to make and I think you will captivate your family and friends with a new and interesting design if you do make one! And the best part, you can make this for Fall or any season for that matter and also for holidays, special occasions and even for everyday use just by switching up the napkin and background patterns.  As with most of my projects, I'm concentrating more than ever on making and sharing crafts that anyone can do and are inexpensive to make.

Let's begin by gathering the supplies you will need:
  • Glass cutting board - Round, 7.75" Dollar Tree
  • Napkin - Leaf shape, Wegmans
  • Plaid paper design
  • Mod Podge - Matte finish
  • DAP RapidFuse - clear multi-purpose adhesive
  • Scissors, scraper blade, acetone(nail polish), paper towel, plastic baggy

Look how cool and unique these napkins are! I found them at Wegmans in the home entertaining section of the store! They carry the best seasonal items for the home!
Let's begin by removing the silicone feet from the back of the glass cutting board using a razor scraper.
Then use 100% acetone (nail polish) on a paper towel to remove the stickiness that was left.  You can also use rubbing alcohol, but that's hard to find right now.  And then wash the board with liquid detergent to remove any residue, dirt and grime from the glass and let dry.
While the glass cutting board is drying, cut one of the leaf patterns from the napkin following the outline. Then separate the plain white layers from the printed leaf design.
Next, apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the facing of the leaf .  .  .
and lay it on the center back side of the glass cutting board, face down.
Smooth out the napkin leaf using a plastic baggy.
And then let it dry.
I found a free pretty plaid design online to compliment the leaf colors. Plaid is quite trendy right now, and has become a favorite all time style that works with just about any home decor theme - from traditional, to farmhouse, to modern. I copied the plaid pattern and enlarged it in Word and printed it out on regular printer paper. But you can also use a scrapbook or paper stock pattern, too.
Next, apply a layer of dish washer safe Mod Podge to the plaid paper and .  .  .
center the paper on the leaf glass cutting board .  .  .
smoothing the paper out along the entire back and let dry.

Once dry, cut off the excess paper around the glass cutting board.
After applying a few more coats of Mod Podge and letting it dry completely, attached the silicone feet using a clear multi-purpose glue, to complete the look.

Still perfect for slicing, and dicing - and for any decorative purposes, too!
