I'm still in the midst of decorating for the holidays. I'm running out of steam so I try to do a little at a time. I'm just not into it this year. I did manage to decorate the front outside area of my house, but I didn't put any lights around the bushes like I normally do. The whole time I'm decorating, I'm thinking of craft projects I should be doing. I have a list but at the rate I'm going, few will get done. Maybe that's why I'm not feeling it.
So I'm working in my greatroom and keep looking at the painting I have over my buffet. It has got to go! There's nothing christmassy about it nor will it
go with any "winter themes". Too light, bright, and flowery!
Last year I placed a gold frame with a wreath in the center over the buffet. I think I did that out of desperation. I couldn't come up with anything better.
But this year I have an idea to make a tree on the wall using unbreakable glitter ornaments I've had for ages and command strip clips to hold them.
Here's how I did it:
I first scribbled on paper how the tree should look. I had 34 ornaments of assorted shades of purple. What other color did you think I had? Ha! Anyway this is what I came up with:

A perfect tree using the exact number of ornaments. Hot dang! I was in business or at least I thought so. I started out trying to "draw" the tree on the wall using chalk. I managed to do that but I had trouble actually seeing it even though I was using purple chalk. Wink, wink!
See, the chalk lines barely show up.
Then I decided to use painter's tape on the outside of the chalk lines which worked out much better.
My next task was to determine the spacing for the 7 rows of ornaments. This is where knowing a bit of math would have helped. I was never good at math, so I'm telling you beforehand, that in the end, I just eyeballed it. After placing x's on the tape for the rows I needed to make sure the rows would be level so I could place the command strips on each end. I had run out of painter's tape to make horizontal lines for each row and didn't want to stop and go to the store. My hubby had a leveler which I started using and found it difficult to hold the level and place the clips on the wall where the x's were. I called for help (a second set of hands) and THEN my hubby sets up his laser leveler which became a project saver for me. Yay!!!

Yes, I am standing on top of my buffet, adding the command clips to the marked spots on each side of the tape. I put all the clips on the wall and forgot to take pictures as I went along. I should have measured between clips but I didn't. I became very anxious and impatient with doing all of this and wanted to hurry up and finish. I started eyeballing placement of the clips. Some were off but I told myself that nothing's perfect - especially a tree. At least it didn't turn out like a crooked "Charlie Brown" tree! Lol!
I altered the spacing a bit at the top to cover the hole where the hook was. I ran out of ornaments to make the base which I think isn't missed anyway. I could add some smaller silver ones for the base, but I think that would throw the colors off. The bottom row is actually a deep purple and not blue like it's showing in the picture.

I temporarily placed accent chairs in front of the buffet. Not sure if they'll stay.
What a wonderful way to add a festive look to a room!
I love how the room feels with the addition of the ornament wall tree and I'm so glad I didn't give up on it. Now to figure out what to do with the lovely accent tree pictured below that I couldn't resist buying.
