DIY Acrylic Tray Update for Spring

 Having different types of trays throughout your home is an easy way to help make it look chic and organize. There are so many ways you can transform trays to suit the occasion - perfectly complimenting any decor! And a great way to bring a little springtime to your surroundings regardless of the weather outside. 

So I want to tell you about my acrylic tray that I've had for a number of years. Did you know that you can turn an everyday acrylic tray into a bold and interesting piece by decoupaging the bottom with decorative wrapping paper!  And the best part, you can use any type of wrapping paper that represents Spring or perhaps your mood or anything for that matter! It also helps to add a gorgeous touch to both indoor and outdoor entertaining, too!  

Just take a look at this acrylic tray! Plain and basically boring, don't you think!  It's time to give it an update for Spring!

I even found a small matching glass in my cabinet to update, too!

And what about this wrapping paper! Doesn't it look purdy? And in my favorite colors, too! Lol! 

I love that it has grid lines on the back! Easier to match the dimensions of the tray and cut out! 

Let's begin by applying a light layer of Mod Podge using a brush to the main bottom portion of the tray.

and then place the wrapping paper on top of the Mod Podge with the design facing the acrylic, smoothing any wrinkles or air bubbles out. 

Use plastic film to help smooth out wrinkles and bubbles. Let dry. Apply additional Mod Podge to seal or use a clear varnish to seal.

This technique is called reverse decoupage since the acrylic tray is transparent, the wrapping paper is decoupaged on the back or bottom and the wrapping paper design is visible on the front - giving the tray a dramatic effect. And also allowing  food to be used on the tray.

Decoupage additional strips of wrapping paper to complete the reverse decoupage look on the acrylic tray by following the previous steps. To clean, wipe off with a damp cloth or wash gently by hand. 

How's this for updating a boring, plain acrylic tray!
