Decorative Ribbon Easter Egg - DIY

This sophisticated Easter craft will add an elegant look and wow factor to your holiday seasonal décor. And knowing how to make a ribbon covered Easter egg will be the icing on the cake with your Spring celebrations. And the best part, you won't believe how easy and inexpensive it is to create with ribbon.

Material needed:
Faux egg (large)
Double sided tape
1/4" satin ribbon (10 yards-50 cents)
5/8" satin ribbon - ($1)
Scissors
Ruler
Stamen
Hot glue
Candle or lighter flame
Tweezers

Begin by wrapping the egg with double sided tape .  .  .
up, down, and around separately, several times. It's best to remove the paper facing before adding each new wrap.

Then, at the center bottom of the egg, place the end of 1/4" ribbon (do not cut ribbon from roll) on top of the tape and begin wrapping the egg, up to the top and around back down to the bottom. Continue wrapping egg, crisscrossing at top and bottom, slightly overlapping ribbon edge all the way around as you wrap.

The ribbon will automatically stick to the tape and make sure you are smoothing the ribbon out tautly as you wrap and crisscross. Quickly lift the ribbon to smooth out or straighten overlapping areas if you make a mistake while wrapping.

Continue wrapping .  .  .

down and up, crisscrossing and overlapping until .  .  .

 the egg is completely covered.

Once covered, hold the ribbon taut at the bottom, cutting off excess and gluing down with a small dab of hot glue.

It's so easy to do and looks really pretty!

To make ribbon flowers:

1.  Cut 5/8" ribbon into 1.5" strips for the petals.  You will need 5 strips per flower.
2.  Hold the ribbon strip using tweezers over the heat of the flame until end curls. Don't get to close or it will burn. You might have to practice a bit for this.
3.  Then curl one end of all the strips.
4.  Make a pleat on opposite end and seal with flame heat.

5.  Pleat and seal bottom of all strips into petals.
6.  Add a dab of glue on lower middle edge of one petal and place edge of another petal on top.
7.  Add dab of glue on lower middle edge of second petal and press third petal edge on top.
8.  Continue adding petals to each edge until you have connected five petals with glue.
9.  Connect the first and fifth petal by placing glue on edge in the middle of one and holding petals upright and pressing together to .  .  .
10. Form flower!
11.  Continue forming flowers using five petals per flower.
12. Fold stamen in half and insert into center of flower.
13. Continue to insert stamens separately, 3 folded, into center and then .  .  .
14. Adjust stamens.
15.  Squeeze stamen stems along with the base of the flower and glue in place.
16. Cut off stamen stems once glue dries.

Arrange flowers in a decorative design and glue onto egg.

To make ribbon leaves:

1.  Cut a 2" strip of 5/8" ribbon for narrow leaves or 1.5"wide for fuller leaves.
2  Place the tip of tweezers on the diagonal at the top corner.
3.  Cut off leaving 1/16" ribbon edge.
4.  Seal edge with flame heat.
5.  Turn ribbon out to mimic leaf.  Cut off to desired length, and seal edge.

Place ribbon leaves around flowers in a decorative manner and glue in place.
You can get really creative with your flower designs!
Now, wasn't that easy!

The Ribbon Easter Egg is truly a lovely and elegant decorative accent you can display all season long!  Enjoy!
