Ruffle Ribbon Pumpkin and Bow

Decorating for fall is a fun and effortless way to fill your home with cozy seasonal charm. Imagine using ruffle wired ribbon to decorate a faux pumpkin topped with an adorable Bowdabra bow! It looks quite unique, adding a dramatic, festive feel to any autumn occasion! So let's get started with making one!

I originally published this project on the Bowdabra.com site, where I'm on the Design Team!

Materials:

How To:
First, you will need lots of wired ribbon. I'm using what was a 50 yard roll from Costco. Leave the ribbon on the roll for now and pull out the wire from one end of the ribbon. Secure that end of the wire by wrapping it tightly around something - I'm using a plastic toothpick to wrap the wire around to keep it neatly together.

To make the first ruffle, as I mentioned before, leave the wired ribbon on the roll. Begin gently pulling out the wire on one of the ribbon edges to create the ruffles, while pushing the ribbon fabric along the wire to form ruffles.

Continue pulling the wire out, gathering into ruffles.

Lay the gathered ribbon on the pumpkin base to get an idea of how much it will take to go around the pumpkin before cutting the ribbon off.

I used straight pins to secure ruffles to the pumpkin. They were easy to use and beats using glue. Adjust the gathers evenly along the length of the ruffle until reaching the other end.

Once you're finish making the ruffle, I like to use a needle to thread the end wire on and then sew the wire into the top edge of the ribbon several times to secure the wire and then cutting off the excess.

After securing the first row of ruffles, use a rubber band to mark where to place the next ruffle on the pumpkin and draw a line around the pumpkin with a marker pen.

I'm really loving this ruffle ribbon pumpkin design!

Continue making additional ruffle layers, gathering the ribbon and adding layers, to dress up the pumpkin.

There are now five ruffle layers on the pumpkin! Time to make an adorable bow using the Mini Bowdabra to complete this lovely, whimsical look!

Let's start by inserting an 18" piece of bow wire folded in half into the Mini Bowdabra, tucking ends under.

Then take a 10" strip of ribbon for the bow tails, pinching the ribbon in the middle and inserting it down into the Mini Bowdabra.
Next, dovetail the ends by folding each ribbon end together and cutting at an angle from the corner end up to the fold on the opposite side.

Next, pinch the end of the ribbon on the roll, placing it down into the Mini Bowdabra.
Create a bow loop by folding over the ribbon at the 3" mark on the ruler and twisting the ribbon down into the Mini Bowdabra while smoothing the ribbon out.
On the opposite side, fold over the ribbon at the 3" mark creating another loop, twisting the ribbon down into the Mini Bowdabra.
Then make another loop, folding over at the 2.5" mark, twisting the ribbon down into the Mini Bowdabra and .  .  .
making another 2.5" loop on the opposite side for a total of four loops (two on each side).

Use the Mini Bowdabra wand to crunch down the bow .  .  .
using scissors to cut off the excess ribbon. While the bow is still in the Mini Bowdabra, thread the two loose ends of the bow wire through the loop, pulling tightly while .  .  .
gently pulling the bow out.

And finally, tie the bow around the pumpkin stem using the Bowdabra bow wire, and then fluff the bow and all of the ruffles for a  .  .  .

fabulous and gorgeous look!

Make a Super Cute Cornucopia and Bow Table Decoration for Fall

With holiday gatherings near, here's an easy and quick DIY on how to make a super cute Cornucopia and Bow Table Decoration for Fall! Impress your family and friends with this lovely decorative piece. Imagine it overflowing with seasonal items such as leaves, acorns, nuts, candies and other goodies! The possibilities are endless!

Supplies Used:

Instructions:
Start with a sheet of burlap paper 12"x12"

Grasp one of the pointed corners facing up, and roll together the burlap paper into a cone shape, with the bottom forming a point.

Once you line up the burlap edges and point into a cone, run glue along the edges where they overlap to hold the cone in place, to make .  .  .
 the cornucopia shape.

To dress up the cornucopia with ribbon, take a 50" piece of wired ribbon and . . .

fold together lengthwise. Use clamps to hold ribbon together. Pull the end wire on each side gathering the ribbon into ruffles.

Continue pulling the wires and gathering the ribbon until you have a ruffle long enough to fit around the top inside of the cornucopia cone.

Adjust the wires on both ends of the ribbon ruffle, tie in knot and cut off excess wire and ribbon. Glue on the ruffle around the inside top of cone.
To make the Bowdabra Bow, cut a 15″ piece of Bowdabra wire, fold together and place in the Mini Bowdabra, tucking the ends under. Cut an 18" piece of matching ribbon, creasing the center and place down into the Mini Bowdabra.

Dovetail the ends of the ribbon by folding the ribbon together and cutting at an angle from the fold down to the corner tip.

Next, leave the ribbon on the roll and crease about an inch from the end of the ribbon and insert down into the Mini Bowdabra. Then fold over a four inch loop and press down into the Mini Bowdabra.
Fold the ribbon to make a matching loop on the opposite side, down into the Mini Bowdabra.
Then make two more loops on either side for a total of four loops.
To finish the bow, make a button loop to cover the bow wire, then scrunch all the loops down using the Mini Bowdabra wand and cut off excess ribbon.
Remove the Mini Bowdabra wand and thread the two loose ends of the bow wire through the loop, pulling tightly and gently pulling it out. Take the bow wire around to the back, tying the wire in two or three tight knots, and cutting off excess wire.
Fluff the bow loops and center button that looks like a ruffle! So cool!

Attach the bow to the center base of the ruffle using glue.

Have fun filling your cornucopia with autumn and fall goodies that will surely impress everyone!

DIY Ruffle Ribbon Wreath for Fall

Here's an amazing DIY decorative wreath using ruffle wired ribbon on cardboard adorned with a Bowdabra bow that's topped with a ribbon rosette. How fabulous does that sound! Especially for Fall! This post first appeared on bowdabra.com where I'm on the design team.

To Make, you will need:

Let's begin by drawing a 13" circle on cardboard using a 13" wood hoop or any round object such as a cookware top or bowl.

Cut the circle out using a craft knife.

Place a top or bowl in the center of the cutout cardboard circle that measures three inches from the edge of the circle and draw another circle. I used an 8" plastic bowl for this. Then cutout inner circle and .  .  .

you have the base of the wreath.

To make the first ruffle, leave the wired ribbon on the roll. For this project I had a 50yd roll of wired ribbon from Sam's Club. You need that much! Begin gently pulling out the wire on the top edge to create the ruffles. Use a pencil to wrap the wire around to keep it neatly together.

It took about nine feet of wired ribbon to make one ruffle to fit around the cardboard wreath. Leave a bit of wire on the end, wrapping it around into a knot, cutting off excess ribbon. Apply glue along the edge of the ruffle ribbon and fold over to make a small hem. Do the same for the other ribbon end adding glue and folding ribbon end over to make a small hem. Attach the ruffle to the cardboard using Fabri-Tac fabric glue along the cardboard edge in increments.
Smoothly press down the ruffle edge of the ribbon along the edge as you apply the glue .  .  .
until the edge is completely covered with the ruffle.
Repeat creating the second ruffle using the same techniques as before and .  .  .

for the third ruffle, spacing the ruffles to cover the cardboard wreath.
Doesn't this wreath look gorgeous with the three rows of ruffle ribbon! Wait until you add the bow!
Glue on a hanging loop at the top center back using Bowdabra wire secured with a strip of ribbon that's glued on.

To make the bow with a wire ribbon rosette center:
Fold a 18″ length of bow wire in half and place in the Bowdabra, tucking ends under. Leaving the wired ribbon on the roll, pinch the ribbon in the center and twist down into the Bowdabra, leaving six inches for the tail. Create a 6.5" loop by folding over the ribbon, twisting the ribbon down into the Bowdabra smoothing the ribbon out.
On the opposite side, fold over the ribbon creating another loop, twisting the ribbon down into the Bowdabra. Match the size of the loops by holding up the loops along the tower of the Bowdabra.

Next, make another loop, slightly shorter than the first two, folding over, twisting the ribbon down into the Bowdabra and making another loop on the opposite side for a total of four loops (two on each side), leaving enough ribbon for a matching tail cutting off the excess ribbon.
Use the Bowdabra wand to crunch down the bow.
Add contrasting ribbon loops by taking an 18" piece of 2.5" ribbon, pinching the end  down into the Bowdabra. Make a 3.5" loop twisting down into the Bowdabra.
Then make a 3.5" loop on the opposite side, twisting down into the Bowdabra.
Crush down the ribbon using the Bowdabra wand. Then cut off excess ribbon.
While the bows are still in the Bowdabra, thread the two loose ends of the bow wire through the loop, pulling tightly, gently pulling it out.
Tie in a double knot at the back to secure. Cut off excess bow wire.
Dovetail the ribbon ends by folding the ribbon together and cutting at an angle from the corner tip up to the fold.
To make the ribbon rosette for the center of the bow, cut off about 18 inches of ribbon. Begin by gently pulling the wire out of one side of the ribbon to create the ruffle. Glue down the ribbon ends to secure the wire and ruffle.
Begin coiling the ribbon tightly for the center forming a "bud."
Continue coiling the ribbon, loosely until  .  .  .
a rosette is formed. Use a clamp to hold in place.
Then wrap the excess wire around the base and .  .  .
glue in place to the center of the bow.
And finally, glue on bow to the middle bottom of the ruffle ribbon wreath for a Fabulous Fall look!
