Rope Wrapped Bunny DIY

While looking through the Hub's stuff for sandpaper I came across a familiar item - clothesline rope. Boy, did this bring back memories! How many of you hung laundry out to dry on clothesline back in the day?
 Hated it!!!
One of the benefits of this "torture" I mean, chore, was the "fresh air smell!" Nope, not for me! Too much work!
Anyway, forgive me, I digress!
Of course I saw a craft project in the works when I saw the rope! But what kind? Wrapped eggs or bowls.  Twine wrapped eggs are quite popular this time of year, but rope is really too thick for that! And I've made a rope bowl before.

But what about a bunny? How cool would that be!

In addition to the above items, you will need:
Hot glue
 Fabri-Tac glue
2.5" Ribbon
Animal eyes
White fabric floral stem wire
Pink felt
Hot wire foam cutter tool (Proxxon) or craft knife
Silicone finger protectors (optional)

Let's begin by placing a dab of hot glue in the center of the bottom of a 6" smoothfoam egg (body), and after squeezing the tip of the rope end together, place down on the glue and begin swirling the rope around in a circle.
Continue wrapping the rope around the egg shape, adding glue periodically down along the rope.
Using hot glue is the quickest way to hold the rope but it can burn your fingers quite easily - oozing up between, so I switched to Fabri-Tac fabric glue to hold the rope in place for the body. It's a quick grab glue, drying in a few minutes.
Continue wrapping the rope around near the top end, leaving an opening to hot glue a smoothfoam ball (head) on.
After the head is glued onto the body, continue wrapping the rope around adding glue periodically until reaching the top. Secure the rope in the center with more glue,  cutting off the excess.
To make the bunny ears and arms: Draw and cut out the patterns on cardboard.  Paint all of the pieces white on both sides.
The original rope size was a bit too thick to wrap the ears and arms, so I unraveled the rope at the end to reveal a thinner piece inside. It was easier to push the outer rope layer away together .  .  .
to wrap both ears with the thinner size using hot glue!
Next, cut ribbon mimicking a smaller ear shape and glue in place for the inner ears.
Next, hot glue the ears onto the head, holding in place for a few minutes until dry!
Then, wrap the arms with the thinner inside rope, being careful not to burn your fingers near the ends.
Hot glue on the arms, curving them
around the body.
For the bunny feet, I had a time trying to cut the foam egg in half down the middle with a knife. I ended up using my Proxxon hot wire tool to make the perfect cut!
Next, wrap both pieces using the inner rope, once again.
Glue the two feet together at the top sides (slightly spreading apart)  .  .  .
before gluing the bunny body on top.
Next, glue on the animal eyes, heart shape mouth (felt) and whiskers (floral stems).
And finally, glue on a matching ribbon bow tie and of course, a carrot to complete the look!
How cute is this!

Searching for Treats - A Bunny Butt Craft

We all know bunny butts are cute and adorable!  Who can resist smiling at that popular commercial with the bunny beating a drum and its' butt twitching to the beat? So why not bring a touch of whimsy to your home décor this Easter season by displaying an easy to make duo of bunny butts in search for their favorite treats!  And the best part, it's really quick to make, too!

You will need:
Paper pulp basket or container of your choice
Acrylic paint/brush
Styrofoam balls - two different sizes
Fleece
Poly-fil
Chenille stems
Bunny feet template
Scissors. needle and thread
Felt
Pom Poms
Hot glue
Floral grass
Faux carrots

I recycled a biodegradable basket that contained organic tomatoes and .  .  .

painted it with a shade of pearl purple paint. Then added a bit of floral grass.

Next, wrap fleece around a Styrofoam ball and secure with a chenille stem.  Cut off excess fleece.
Wrap the smaller ball the same way.
. Push some of the grass aside where the balls should go and insert. Glue on a pom pom slightly below the middle of each ball.

Next, copy and paste bunny feet template to word and adjust size in format, if needed. Print  and cut out the feet pattern on a folded piece of fleece.

With right sides together, hand-stitch fleece edge leaving an opening.  Turn inside out, and lightly stuff with poly-fil.  Close opening with an invisible stitch.

Cut out pads in felt and glue on top of feet.

Glue on bunny feet upside down to edge of container.
And finally, place faux carrots in grass for an adorable look!

Burlap Easter Bunny Bag

I've been having a fun time making crafts for Easter even though I don't have any grandkids.  I still have some paperbacked burlap left and wanted to make this cute bunny bag.  You might be asking what on earth could you do with that.  Well it's great for boys in place of a traditional Easter basket.  Hence, the green and purple colors.  I made a "tray" out of the same material that sits inside and candy, eggs and toys can be placed in it and then wrapped in cellophane.  Such a cute idea!

The burlap bag was easy to make once I figured out the measurements needed for folding it since I was working with a 24" x 12" sheet of burlap.

So let's get started!

Materials needed:

  • Paper-backed burlap 24" x 12"  (Jo-Ann)
  • Bunny parts pattern
  • Foam Sheets
  • Google eyes
  • Pom pom for nose
  • Chenille stems for whiskers
  • White poster board for teeth
  • Burlap ribbon for strap
  • Velcro closure
  • Hot glue gun
  • Large 12 1/2" plate or top

First, I had to work up a template using a large 24" x 12" sheet of paper for the bag.   My original folds didn't work for me so I had to adjust the sizes of each section and re-fold before I was able to transfer the measurements to the burlap. That's why you see so many folds.

Final measurements are:

Fold and make sharp creases along lines:

Next, used a 12 1/2" plate to round off the corners of the 6" flap with a pencil and cut out.

Now it's time to cut out the bunny parts.  This template can be copied and pasted to Word and sized using format.

*Sorry, I don't know how to download templates yet.

The inner ears and peds for the paws were cut from green foam sheets.
I used a dime to cut out the six peds in case you're wondering what size it is.

The teeth were cut from white poster board and all pieces were glued on as shown.

Burlap ribbon was glue across the width of the back inside.

To make the tray, I looked around for a cardboard box approximately 12" long and 4" wide to take apart to use as a pattern.  I was lucky to find a coffee filter box that worked.

The box was in one piece when I took it apart so I had to cut it in half in order to use the burlap since it wasn't long enough.

I just drew the shape of the cardboard onto the back of the burlap, cut out and hot glued the flaps together.
I think the burlap tray turned out really good considering it was the first time making something like this.

Here is the tray filled with Easter goodies.
I added a video game as an idea as to what can be included.

Once filled, wrap tray in cellophane and tie with ribbon.

A small piece of Velcro closure is added on the front to keep the flaps closed.

This really brings a smile to my face!

Bunny Rabbits Burlap Canvas Craft

Make this cute Easter burlap canvas art featuring burlap carrots, raffia carrot tops and  fleece bunny rabbits with bushy pom pom tails.  These little bunny rabbit silhouettes are just too cute sitting and looking at the bountiful carrots.

Here's what you need to get started:
  • Burlap canvas (20x16)
  • Orange burlap
  • Fusible heat n bond
  • Raffia (green or paint)
  • White fleece or felt
  • Pom poms  (3)
  • Carrot template
  • Bunny template

To start, you can either draw free hand a carrot and rabbit or locate templates online similar to the ones pictured.  I made slight variations to the ones I found by googling rabbit templates.

You will need to make seven carrots and three rabbits.  For the carrots, I fused heat n bond to two pieces of burlap and cut out 7 carrots, slightly varying the shape, but keeping the same height and width.

Next, I painted raffia green.  After drying, I wrapped the raffia together with cellophane tape to form the carrot tops

I hot glued the carrot top bases to the burlap canvas and then glued the carrots on top.

I then cut out the fleece rabbits and fused heat n bold to the backs (forgot to take pictures of this) and then glued the rabbits on top of the carrots and then the pom poms onto the rabbits.

Don't you just love looking at these pom pom bunny tails?
The bunnies look like they are ready to pounce on the carrots!

Too cute!
And the burlap canvas can be framed to compliment your décor.

I'm sure this can stay up all summer long since bunnies tend to visit during that time especially if you have a garden.

Take a little time to enjoy
