Ruffled Foam Sheet Wreath DIY
This is a re-post from a few years ago. It was originally posted in a 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop.
I'm sharing with you how to make an elegant looking wreath for the holidays using foam sheets and glitter. This is totally a diy craft starting with a plain Styrofoam wreath, punching out circles of foam sheets, turning the circles into ruffles using an iron, sprinkling the glue coated edges with glitter and finally gluing the ruffles on to the Styrofoam wreath with hot glue. That's all it takes to make this easy beautiful ruffled foam sheet wreath!
Let's begin by punching out about seventy-five 3" circles. I used a 3" circle puncher.
Next, sandwich the circles between two sheets of parchment paper and place a hot iron on top for 15 seconds.
Push the top sheet away to reveal the circle curved as pictured.
Quickly pick up the circle, holding in the center. Take other hand (fingers) and gently squeeze ends together into a ruffle shape. Hold and let cool for a few seconds.
Continue heating and shaping circles into ruffles until you have made at least 75 ruffles. You may need more depending on how you place them together on the Styrofoam wreath.
Next, sprinkle glitter on a flat paper plate. Paint mod podge on the edges of the ruffles and scoop the ruffle edges into the glitter. Let ruffles dry on parchment paper. Hot glue the ruffles onto the wreath, filling along the top first and then the sides. You will notice that the ruffles will intertwine with one another in placement.
Continue gluing on the ruffles until . . .
the wreath is completely covered.
To complete the look, make a bow using the Mini Bowdabra to add!
Begin by folding 18 inches of Bowdabra bow wire in half, and placing it in the Mini Bowdabra, tucking ends under. To make your first loop, make a four inch fold of ribbon and press into the Mini Bowdabra.
Next, fold the other side at the same width for the next loop. Ribbon tails should be down and below your loops.
Make two more additional loops in the same manner, one side at a time for a total of four loops. Scrunch down ribbon using the Mini Bowdabra wand. Cut the tail ends at a angle.
While the bow is still in the Mini Bowdabra, push the loose ends of the bow wire through the loop, pulling tightly and gently pulling the bow out, tying the wires in a knot in the back. Fluff the bow . . .
and attach to wreath with a glue dot.

ReplyDeleteSuch a cute and easy way to make a wreath! Of course you used purple but how pretty it would look in different colors. I would opt for white on white, just me...then add whatever color bow I wanted!
ReplyDeleteNice work, great idea, nice wreath!

I love how the ruffles look! And I have to say that Bowdabra is pretty darn cool. I can't tie a pretty bow to save my life, so this would come in handy for sure.
