Holiday Candle Ring on Tray

Dress up your favorite pillar candle with the addition of a beautiful candle ring for the holidays!  To do this, I'm starting with a wooden round tray base I found at a thrift store a few years ago. It was dirty and a little beat up, but I couldn't resist the price of $1.50! I had no idea what I would do with it until now. I envisioned embellishing the round tray with a pearl and beaded garland, two different sizes of clear ornaments, pink glitter balls, tiny glitter ball stems and pink handmade faux leather glitter leaves along with a LED pillar candle placed in the center. Sounds fabulous, doesn't it! Perfect for Christmas and special occasions throughout the year, too! And it's ideal for this month's "Do It Over Designers" project.

In case you don't know, the Do It Over Designers is a group of talented bloggers who love to recycle/upcycle/DIY, hosted by Anne @The Apple Street Cottage. It happens the 4th Saturday of every other month and it's all about taking something old and/or unused and 'doing it over' into something new. Anything from fabric, old dishes, and decor to dressers and hutches. Items found in closets, cabinets, barns, garages, yard sales, thrift stores, you name it! Materials Used:

• Wooden Round Tray
• Pearl and Beaded Garland
• Double sided heavy-duty tape
• Clear Plastic Ornaments 
• Glitter Balls
• Tiny Glitter Balls Stems
• Glitter Faux Leather (24"x8")
• Printer paper/Leaf template/Scissors
• Hot Glue Gun/glue sticks
• LED Pillar Candle w/timer

How To:

Let's begin by washing and drying the wooden tray.

Then wrap the beaded garland around the outside of the tray, starting on the edge. I used double sided tape to keep the beads and garland on the edge.

Next, placed two different sizes of clear ornaments randomly around the tray, fitting in the garland grooves.

Then added the LED pillar candle w/timer in the center.

And sprinkled small glitter balls throughout!

To make the faux glitter leaves, cut paper the size of the leaf you want. Fold it in half. Then fold the faux leather - just enough to place the folded paper leaf completely on the fold and .  .  .

cut out.

I cut out 20, 4.5" leaves for the ring. 
To add a wire stem to back, run a line of hot glue along the center of the leaf and press wire stem down on the hot glue. To keep from burning your fingers, roll a cylinder shape like a permanent marker along the stem to seal.

Once the hot glue has cooled off, gently shape the leaves .  .  .

and randomly place them around the candle ring and especially over the tray edge.

And finally, stick tiny ball glitter stems around the candle and throughout the ring for a whimsical touch!

What a fun and lovely way to recycle a tray and add a festive and pretty candle ring to your holiday decor!
