Plaster Doily Bowl DIY

Welcome to this month's DIY Challenge, hosted by Terrie @Decorate and More with TipIn case you don't know about this DIY Challenge, on the 1st Wednesday of each month, a group of talented bloggers create something based on a theme or material that's selected by Terri! This month Terri is raising the bar with a Plaster or Concrete theme! I had made a couple of plaster cloth projects - here and here. So I thought this theme would be somewhat simple.
But after starting what I thought would be an easy plaster bowl - my first one was a complete fail! I couldn't get the plaster bowl out of the mold! It was metal! Silly me! So I looked around in my stash and saw an old doily I had gotten from Michaels a few years ago. I knew I wouldn't have a problem making a plaster doily bowl! After all, there are so many ways to stiffen and shape a doily into a bowl! And they all seemed quite easy - including using plaster!

Let's start with covering your work surface with opened plastic trash bags or newspaper. I opened a couple of plastic trash bags to cover my table

This DIY is as easy as one, two, three - Following the directions on the plaster package, mix a 1/2 cup water to 1 cup plaster powder. Use a throw-away plastic cup to scoop the plaster powder out of the bag into the plastic container.

Adding enough plaster to the water and stirring together so the consistency is that of cake batter.
Dip the doily into the plaster mixture, soaking the doily and making sure the doily is completely covered.
Squeeze out the excess plaster mixture and drape over the bottom of the upside down glass container.

Smooth out the doily over the jar, removing any wrinkles especially along the scalloped edges.
I wanted the bowl to flair out a bit, so I rolled up some plastic store bags and placed them under the crochet scalloped edges. Leaving it on the bowl overnight to allow it to completely dry and harden.
Once dry, the doily was easily removed from atop of the glass container.

PS, I was finally able to remove the first plaster bowl from the metal mold. Perhaps I will share that one in a future post.
Looks beautiful!
For decorative purposes only!
Great for packaged candies!

  5. very detailed info about plaster, thanks. look for shoes that have a good amount of cushioning and support. This will help to ensure that your feet are comfortable on long hikes. Additionally, make sure that the shoes have a firm heel cup and arch support. This will provide added stability and support for your feet. Finally, try to find shoes with a wide toe box. This will give your toes plenty of room to move around and will help to prevent them from rubbing against the sides of the shoe. click the link for more info https://shoesonground.com/best-hiking-shoes-for-flat-feet/
